GENETIC PARAMETERS OF Eucalyptus spp. CLONES IN NORTHEASTERN BRAZIL
Brazil is the largest charcoal producers in the world, with the main centers of charcoal consumption located in the states of Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Espírito Santo, Maranhão, and Pará. Planting of Eucalyptus in the northern and northeastern states of Brazil is relatively new and is limited the lack of genetic materials adapted to the region’s high temperatures and severe, prolonged periods of drought. The objective of this study was to assess the genetic parameters and variability and determine the genotype x environment interaction for drought tolerance in Eucalyptus clonal tests established in two environments in the municipality of Grajaú, Maranhão State, Brazil. The tests were planted in January 2011 in clayey and sandy soils in a randomized complete block design with 130 clones, one plant per plot, and 20 replicates. The studied clones showed high genetic variability for drought tolerance, with coefficients of relative variance () consistently greater than 0.8 for DBH and volume. This indicates high levels of genetic control and less influence of environmental factors on the phenotype, which allows for selection and obtaining gains through breeding. Heritability estimates were high for growth traits, with average clone heritabilities () greater than 0.85, as well as acuracies () above 0.9 for DBH and volume in clone selection. There was a simple interaction between genotype x environment for the clones under the two different soil conditions
Perfil epidemiológico da Nova Doença Infecciosa do Coronavírus - COVID-19 (Sars-Cov-2) no mundo: Estudo descritivo, janeiro-junho de 2020 / Epidemiological profile of the New Infectious Coronavirus Disease - COVID-19 (Sars-Cov-2) in the world: Descriptive study, january-june 2020
Genetic variability in clones of Eucalyptus spp. for Grajaú, state of Maranhão.
A variabilidade
No geral,
os caracteres foram altamente acurados. As correlações genéticas (ˆ
This research aimed to select clones of eucalypts under testing in Grajaú,
MA, Brazil, in order to increase the wood productivity. The traits considered were
diameter at breast height – DAP (cm) and height – ALT (m). For this purpose, a total of
130 clones, distributed across 20 blocks with one plant/plot, were assessed at the
ages four and five years. The statistical procedures were the mixed model method to
obtain the best linear unbiased predictors (BLUP) and the restricted maximum likelihood
(REML) to estimate the components of variance. For clones and plots, the likelihood
ratio tests (LRT) were significant at 1% of probability. The genetic variability was
high and ranged from 11.42% to 14.70% for DAP and 9.15% to 10.22% for ALT. The coefficient of variation ratio (CVr
) was greater than one for both traits, showing that
selection can result in large and rapid genetic gains. In general, the traits were highly accurate.
The genetic correlations (ˆ
gr ) were positive, indicating the possibility for indirect selection.
The results indicated that DAP must be used preferentially in relation to ALT, and allow us
to conclude that the genetic gains after selection are very promising. The selected clones
can be indicated to pilot clonal tests and/or phase II to places with environmental conditions
similar to the field trial
The Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis Barret & Golfari is highly important as a cultivated species for wooden production and approximately 1.8 million hectare are planted with the species, in Brazil. This research has aimed to verify through SSR markers the genetic variability in Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis, as well as its maintenance during genetic improvement, into the base population for breeding, a population of elite trees and an F1 hybrid population. For this study we have transferred primers of SSR loci developed for other Pinus species. Eight out of 20 tested primers have been successfully transferred to the P. caribaea (RPS 25b, RPS 150, PSM 2, PR 4.6, PtTX 2037, PtTX 3029, RPTest 01, and RPTest 09). Inbreeding was verified within and between populations, and the highest observed value between populations was F ST = 0.0213. The observed heterozigosity (Ho) and the expected heterozigosity (He) means were, respectively, 0.2469 and 0.2489. The highest genetic distance (D = 0.0119) was observed between the base populations and the F1 improved population. Based on genetic distance values obtained for elite trees, 10 potential crossings between contrasting elite trees have been indicated, aiming to reach the hybrid vigor between progenies from those crossings
Productivity of soybean in management zones with application of different sowing densities
ABSTRACT: The present study aimed to assess the efficiency of sowing at variable rates for soybean cultivation in two management zones (MZs) which were defined based on stable attributes and correlated with productivity using the Fuzzy C-means clustering algorithm and the kriging interpolation.Seeding was carried out in the 2015/2016 and 2017/2018 crops with a variation of 20% of seeds and crop row spacing of 0.70m. In each MZ, 8 plots with higher and lower seed density were established. Productivity was measured using a harvest monitor connected to a harvester. Data were filtered and submitted to descriptive analysis. Productivity maps were generated using the inverse square distance interpolation for each seeding density. In the MZ with the highest productive potential (MZ 1), the productivity was 3.39 and 3.18t ha-1, and in the MZ with the lowest productive potential (MZ 2) the productivity was 3.30 and 3.11t ha-1 for the years 2016 and 2018, respectively. Interpolation estimated higher productivity with the application of 15 plants m-1. Based on the economic analysis, it is suggested in this study the application of 214,000 plants ha-1 in both MZs
